Set up Milo in 5 minutes
A friendly, step-by-step guide — no technical skills needed.
1 · Install it
Open the DMG you downloaded and drag Milo into the Applications folder. Then eject the installer and open Milo from Applications (or Launchpad) — never run it from the DMG window: macOS treats apps run from there as temporary, and permissions won't stick.
2 · Open it for the first time
Milo isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate yet, so macOS blocks the very first open. That's expected — here's the way through:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Scroll down to “Milo was blocked to protect your Mac”
- Click Open Anyway and confirm
3 · Connect the intelligence
Milo thinks using Claude. The recommended way is the claude CLI — Claude's terminal app — which uses your existing Claude subscription, so questions during meetings don't cost extra.
- Open the Terminal app and paste: npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code
- Run claude once and follow the login in your browser
- Done — Milo finds it automatically
Prefer an API key instead? Paste an Anthropic API key in Milo → Settings → AI Backend and skip this step.
4 · Grant the two permissions
When you start your first session, macOS asks for two permissions: Microphone (your voice) and Screen & System Audio Recording (what the others say). Everything is transcribed on your Mac — audio never leaves your machine.
5 · Your first session
Click Start listening when the meeting begins. The transcript fills in live (ME / THEM) and four buttons do the magic:
- Catch me up — a summary of the last minutes, for when you zone out
- Explain — what that term or acronym you just heard means
- Suggest reply — a reply suggestion in the meeting's language
- Research — a deep dive that uses the live meeting context
When you stop the session, Milo offers a summary. Past sessions live under Sessions and auto-delete after 30 days.
Good to know
- Private by design: transcription runs on your Mac, on-device.
- Sharing your screen? Milo's window can be excluded from screen capture (toggle in Settings).
- Requirements: macOS 26 or newer, on Apple Silicon.
